Not Enough Air
by Masha Obolensky
Not Enough Air follows famed journalist-turned-playwright Sophie Treadwell as she is drawn into the real-life tragedy of Ruth Snyder's 1928 murder trial.  Treadwell is haunted by Ruth's story and finds herself compelled to bring it to the stage in the form of her landmark play Machinal, acclaimed as one of the highpoints of expressionist theater on an American stage.  In this exploration of media sensationalism and ethics as well as interpretation and manipulation in the creative process, Obolensky illuminates the lives of two women who pushed against the limitations and expectations imposed upon them by society.
Not Enough Air was produced at TimeLine Theatre in Chicago in 2009, and was nominated for 5 Equity Jeff Awards (including Outstanding New Work, Best Production, and Best Incidental Music).  For video clips and reviews from this production, click here .  In 2006 it was nominated for a Jane Chambers student playwriting award, and won first prize in Boston Theatre Works' Unbound Festival of New Work.

Blue Tuesday
by Frank Anthony Polito
"Wall Street investment banker, Ian Brown, and his eight months pregnant wife, Stacy Gold, live in a beautiful brownstone on Willow Street in Brooklyn Heights.  When Stacy gives up her book publicist job to become a stay-at-home Mom, she soon gets bored with sitting on the Promenade, sipping Starbucks.  With time on her hands, Stacy begins to fear losing what little intimacy she and Ian have left, once the baby arrives.
Aspiring actor, Mark Gray, and his lover, Paul Green, have been living long-distance for the past six months.  Mark keeps a studio on Willow Street, while Paul works as a lawyer in Boston, near his sick mother.  When Mark learns of Paul's mom's dying wish to see him marry her son, he is faced with the reality of finally telling his parents he's gay.  With time running out, Mark soon discovers what committing himself fully to another person truly entails."
An earlier draft of Blue Tuesday premiered at the 2007 New York International Fringe Festival under the title Another Day on Willow St, where it was named "Outstanding New Play" by Talkin' Broadway.  For more information, visit www.anotherdayonwillowst.com .
