The Dark at the Top of the Stairs
March-April 2007
A revival of the last major play by William Inge. Directed by Jack Cummings III.
Transport Group presented the official 50th Anniversary production of The Dark at the Top of the Stairs by Pulizter Prize and Academy Award-winning playwright William Inge. His compelling drama is less one story than a series of short stories: the fight between a husband and wife, the fear of a young girl going to a dance, the problems of a little boy who feels the whole world is against him, and the inwardly corroding marriage of a seemingly well-adjusted sister-in-law. William Inge possesses a magic of language that never once uses a false word or phrase.
Set in a small town in the early 1920's, Dark tells the story of a middle class family struggling to maintain it unity in the face of economic, social and physical violence. This production featured a star-studded cast including: Tony Award winner Michele Pawk, Patrick Boll, Donna Lynne Champlin, with Paul Iacono, Liz Mamana, Colby Minifie, Jay Potter, Jack Tartaglia and Matt Yeager.
